Annnnd...she's a werewolf. Come on, she's a werewolf!
I'm about halfway through Correia's Hard Magic and I've noticed he has one of the writerly flaws that annoys me extensively in my own work. A tendency to act like something's still mysterious LOOOONG after all the readers have figured it out. There's this big plot device Correia's been setting up slowly over the course of the book, and even in the internal monologue of the prime mover he's refusing to reveal it. But it became pretty obvious about a third of the way into the book, and blatantly so by the point where I am now. Whether or not it works is immaterial, it's kinda annoying that Correia's trying to pretend it's still secret. Unnecessary coyness.
